Johnson-Salami, who was nominated in the Media and Journalism category, defeated the founder and CEO of Ebony Life, Ms. Mo Abudu, and Chair of the Nigeria Chapter of Women in Film and Television, Ajoke Silva, to win the award.
The awards Gala is organised by the British High Commission, the European Union Delegation and the Embassies of France, Germany and the United States of America in partnership with the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Johnson-Salami was described by the awards committee as “A rising star in media and journalism (who) is changing the narrative around gender equality, youth empowerment, climate action and social inclusion, one conversation at a time.”

The inaugural International Women’s Day Awards Gala 2022 is an event, which celebrates and recognises champions in promoting women’s leadership and gender equality in Nigeria whilst providing inspiration for accelerated actions towards this mandate.
